About EV Training

The Alternatively Fueled Vehicle course allows people with a Category B license (car) to drive an electric van over 3.5T but less than 4.25T. As a member of the awarding body, RTITB, JLD are able to offer this training and carry out bookings for groups that require the EV training course.

The 3-unit syllabus covers:

Unit 1 – Preparing the alternatively fueled vehicle and its contents for daily use.

Unit 2 – Driving the alternatively fueled vehicle in accordance with the Highway Code and current Legislations.

Unit 3 – Safety and Efficiency.

When a driver has completed the syllabus, they will have a better understanding of:

  • Road safety benefits

  • Fuel-saving driving techniques.

  • Energy-saving driving techniques.

  • Refueling and the safety factors of alternative fuel types

  • Safe driving techniques

  • Safe loading

  • Vehicle handling techniques

  • Legislative requirements.

To gain the certificate, the driver needs to successfully complete the course (5 hour duration) to the instructor’s satisfaction.
