Route to the Road
At JLD we want to make gaining your licence as simple for you as possible, so we have put together this step by step guide to help you along the way. You can also book a package at JLD and we can mentor you all the way through the training and processes to gain your licence.
1. CONTACT JLD
Firstly call or e-mail JLD to arrange the best package for yourself or to book onto a medical to kick start the process!
You will need to make an appointment with our Doctor on site in Banbury where you can also pick up the D2 and D4 forms and complete them with the help of one of our instructors on the day!
2. MEDICAL
On the day of the medical, the Doctor and yourself will complete the D2 and D4 forms. (When ticking the D2 provisional application form make sure you tick C/C+E and not C1.)
Send the completed D2 and D4 forms with your driving licence to the DVLA in the envelope provided by JLD.
3. THEORY TESTS
Start studying for your theory tests. Call JLD if you are unsure what training material you will require for the theory tests and we will gladly offer our advice. (Training Material is included in our Silver, Gold and Platinum packages).
When you receive your licence back from the DVLA you can book your theory tests. These can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test. If you are booked onto a Silver, Gold or Platinum package, JLD will book these theory tests for you!
4. TRAINING & TEST
Everyone taking Category C/C+E will be required to take the LGV Multiple Choice questions (module 1a) and the Hazard Perception test (module 1b). On passing modules 1a and 1b you can then book your Category C/C+E training course!
On passing your Category C/C+E test the examiner will send your licence away to the DVLA to have the full Category C/C+E entitlement added to your licence (should you wish, you can send it yourself).
Should you wish you can now book your C+E training course (if not done already).
5. CPC (IF REQUIRED)
You may also require CPC depending on what you will be using the licence for. This will be either Periodic or Initial CPC. Which one will depend on when you passed your car test. Please call JLD if you are unsure. This can be done before or after passing the practical driving test.
