Category C Licence, also known as a rigid or class 2
This licence is required to drive rigid vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and up to 32 tonnes.
You must be 18 years old or over to hold this licence.
There are several steps that need to be completed to gain your licence. Firstly you need to get the provisional category C added to your licence, this requires forms D2 & D4 being completed. Form D2 is to have the provisional added and D4 is the medical form and must be completed by a doctor. Once you have added the provisional you then need to pass the Multiple Choice and Hazard Perception theory tests before you can take the practical driving course and test. Depending on your age, when you passed your car test and the reason for gaining the licence you may have to complete either Periodic (35 Hours) or Initial (Modules 2 & 4) CPC. If you are unsure about this or any part of the process please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We offer four packages to help you gain your licence:
The Bronze Package: This includes JLD supplying the D2 & D4 forms and the standard 5 day driver training and test (test on the 5th day).
The Silver Package: This includes all of the Bronze Package plus JLD booking your medical, Multiple Choice and Hazard Perception theory tests and providing the online practice training material for the theory tests plus an optional driving assessment.
The Gold Package: This Includes all of the Silver Package plus JLD booking the Initial CPC theory test (Module 2), providing the online practice training material and also the training and test for the Module 4 Practical Demonstration Test. If however you require the Periodic CPC we will arrange training dates for this.
The Platinum Package: This includes all of the Gold Package plus the standard 5 day C+E (artic) training course with the test on the 5th day.
The Silver, Gold and Platinum packages include a JLD mentor who will plan your training and be available to provide information, advice and guidance throughout your training.
Our category C course normally runs Wednesday to Tuesday with a break for the weekend and is conducted 2 candidates to 1 instructor, starting at 8:00am and ending around 4:00pm.
We can start courses from either of our sites in Banbury or Abingdon (Steventon Storage Facility) but please be aware that all LGV test routes are around the Abingdon area so this is where the day will be spent training. There are currently no LGV/HGV test routes available around the Banbury area.
All of our training takes place on the actual DVSA test routes so as to give the candidate the best possible chance of passing first time. We also have our own DVSA accredited test area. This means the examiner will come to us, so you can relax in the knowledge you will be in familiar surroundings on test day and reverse on the area you have been practicing on throughout your course.
All of our instructors are trained to an extremely high standard, this means they have taken an advanced driving test and an instructional ability test with our senior instructor to not only prove they can drive to an exceptionally high standard but also instruct in a manner that is clear and informative. Regular monitoring is carried out along with standardisation meetings to make sure we continue to deliver training of the highest standard.
