Category C1 Licence, also known as 7.5 Tonne

You must be 18 years old or over to hold this licence.

This licence is for anyone wanting to drive rigid vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and up to 7.5 tonnes. It’s a very popular licence with people in the equine industry, people wishing to join the ambulance service and for builders with smaller vehicles.

There are several steps that need to be completed to gain the C1 licence. Firstly you need to get the provisional category C1 added to your licence, this requires forms D2 & D4 being completed. Form D2 is to have the provisional added and D4 is the medical form and must be completed by a doctor. Once you have added the provisional you then need to pass the Multiple Choice and Hazard Perception theory tests before you can take the practical driving course and test. Depending on your age and the reason for gaining the licence you may have to complete the Initial CPC (Modules 2 & 4). If you are unsure about any part of the process please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We offer the following packages depending on experience:

Our category C1 course normally starts on a Wednesday and is conducted 2 candidates to 1 instructor, starting at 8:00am and ending around 4:00pm.

We can start courses from either of our sites in Banbury or Abingdon (Steventon Storage Facility) but please be aware that all C1 test routes are around the Abingdon area so this is where the day will be spent training. There are currently no C1 test routes available around the Banbury area.

All of our training takes place on the actual DVSA test routes so as to give the candidate the best possible chance of passing first time. We also have our own DVSA accredited test area. This means the examiner will come to us, so you can relax in the knowledge you will be in familiar surroundings on test day and reverse on the area you have been practicing on throughout your course.

All of our instructors are trained to an extremely high standard, this means they have taken an advanced driving test and an instructional ability test with our senior instructor to not only prove they can drive to an exceptionally high standard but also instruct in a manner that is clear and informative. Regular monitoring is carried out along with standardisation meetings to make sure we continue to deliver training of the highest standard.
